This figure represents the highest number of international arrivals in any May over the past ten years.
In the first five months of the year, international arrivals totalled 9.2 million, up more than 21% year on year. Among these, air arrivals continued to dominate, accounting for over 7.4 million visitors. Land arrivals reached nearly 1.2 million, with the remainder arriving by sea.
The leading source markets during this period remained familiar names, including China, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), India, the US, and Japan.
In terms of growth momentum, Russia led with a 221% increase compared to the same period last year, followed by the Philippines (over 200%), Cambodia (more than 160%), and India (over 134%).
Tourism and travel revenue in the first five months is estimated at 38.4 trillion VND, accounting for 1.4% of total national revenue and up 24.7% compared to the same period last year.
The General Statistics Office noted that favourable visa policies, intensified tourism promotion, and various celebrations of major holidays have all contributed to the surge in international arrivals to Viet Nam during the period.
