Localities strengthen cooperation to develop cultural industry products

The development of the cultural industries is emerging as a new pillar of economic growth, contributing to national branding and the preservation of cultural identity. However, to create high-quality products, closer cooperation among localities is essential.

River tourism is one of the sectors with potential for inter-provincial cooperation among localities in the Red River Delta region.

On May 12 in Ha Noi, the Institute for Socio-Economic Development Studies (under the Ha Noi People’s Committee) held a workshop on “Regional linkage solutions for developing selected cultural industry products of the capital in connection with provinces in the Red River Delta by 2030.”

The event sought to identify solutions to enhance the effectiveness of cultural industry product development through stronger collaboration between Ha Noi and neighbouring provinces and cities in the region.

The workshop brought together numerous experts in cultural industries as well as representatives from the culture and tourism sectors of Ha Noi, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, and others.

The cultural industries are fast becoming a key driver of economic growth, helping to affirm national standing. At the same time, they play an important role in promoting sustainable development, safeguarding and enhancing cultural identity, and fostering national pride and confidence in the context of international integration.

Ha Noi is among the leading localities in Viet Nam in terms of cultural industry development.

However, to fully harness potential, capitalise on strengths, and mitigate limitations in cultural industry development across localities, inter-provincial cooperation, especially among those in the same region, is essential.

At the workshop, participants analysed the potential of Ha Noi’s cultural industries and identified 13 key sectors: cultural tourism; performing arts; handicrafts; design; advertising; fine arts, photography and exhibitions; cinema; fashion; cuisine; software and entertainment games; television and radio; publishing; and architecture.

Based on this overview, delegates proposed that Ha Noi prioritise collaboration with Red River Delta provinces in four sectors: cultural tourism, performing arts, handicrafts, and cuisine.

Various models of cooperation were proposed. For instance, locality-based linkage models such as cooperation between Ha Noi and Nam Dinh to develop ritual products, between Ha Noi and Hai Duong to develop ceramic craft village products, or between Ha Noi and Ninh Binh to create heritage-based experiential and educational tourism journeys. Other suggestions included vertical linkages (sector specific, such as tourism or handicrafts), hybrid linkages, and partnerships among businesses and professional associations.
