Nhan Dan Newspaper marks the 75th anniversary of its first issue and receives the First-Class Labour Order

At the ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the first issue of Nhan Dan Newspaper, on behalf of the Party and State leadership, General Secretary To Lam presented the First-Class Labour Order to Nhan Dan Newspaper, recognising the newspaper’s outstanding achievements in the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

On the morning of March 11, 2026, at Ho Guom Theatre in Ha Noi, Nhan Dan Newspaper solemnly organised the ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the first issue of Nhan Dan Newspaper (March 11, 1951 – March 11, 2026) and received the First-Class Labour Order awarded by the Party and the State.

Continuously developing and making worthy contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation

Delivering the commemorative speech, Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications, Education and Mass Mobilisation, President of the Viet Nam Journalists Association, reviewed the glorious 75-year journey of construction, struggle and growth of Nhan Dan Newspaper since the milestone of publishing its first issue on March 11, 1951.

“That was a glorious historical event because Nhan Dan is the official political newspaper whose name was suggested by President Ho Chi Minh and was born not through an ordinary licensing procedure, but through a decision of the Party Congress – the second National Party Congress in 1951,” Le Quoc Minh said, adding that since the birth of Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Party’s General Secretaries, from veteran leaders such as Truong Chinh and Le Duan… to Nguyen Phu Trong and To Lam, have all attached special importance to the role of the Party newspaper.

Nhan Dan Newspaper, with its irreplaceable historical role as the chronicle of the era and the faithful recorder of the Vietnamese revolution, has accompanied the nation throughout the 30 years of resistance wars for national liberation and reunification; the period of post-war reconstruction and wars to defend the Fatherland at both ends of the country; more than 40 years of Renovation and deep international integration, building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

In the process of renewal and integration, the newspaper has also served as a forum for the people to participate in social criticism, facing the truth to contribute to revising, supplementing and improving policies, promoting grassroots democracy, awakening intellectual potential and the courage to protect the good and criticise the bad, thereby creating achievements of historical significance.

“As the organ of the Party, comprehensiveness, nationwide coverage of all aspects of the country’s political life, expanding influence, diversifying readership and attaching importance to modern journalism technology have always been the orientation of Nhan Dan Newspaper,” Le Quoc Minh emphasised. Together with Nhan Dan Daily, Nhan Dan Online (in Vietnamese, English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Russian and Korean), Nhan Dan Weekend, Nhan Dan Monthly, and Thoi Nay, a multimedia converged newsroom has been formed, unified in diversity with many achievements.

Specifically implementing the tasks of innovation and national digital transformation, Nhan Dan is a press agency taking the lead in digital transformation. For two consecutive years, 2024–2025, it was listed among the Top 10 central press agencies with outstanding digital transformation, and in 2025 it rose to third place, with a series of positive changes in the converged newsroom, the application of modern journalism technology, bringing Nhan Dan everywhere at all times with the motto “Wherever there are people, there is Nhan Dan Newspaper!”

Entering a new period, amid strong changes in communication technology and the press environment, Le Quoc Minh stated that Nhan Dan Newspaper must continue to uphold the tradition, identity and position of an official political newspaper. It must be a place that gathers and conveys official information, positions and viewpoints of the Party and the State - in the richness, diversity and sharpness of journalistic genres; the seriousness, honesty, objectivity and depth of information; the firm and subtle orientation and guidance in all circumstances; the widespread, popular and modern presence on platforms; and the practical, constructive critical approach directed towards broad sections of the people.

Those working at Nhan Dan Newspaper must be steadfast in political qualities, proficient in professional skills, constantly innovate, adapt and learn to master technologies and tools. At the same time, the ethics of Nhan Dan journalists is a value built and protected through many generations, and that value must continue to be preserved.

According to Le Quoc Minh, the 75th anniversary of the first issue of Nhan Dan Newspaper is an occasion to look back on achievements, express gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions of previous generations, affirm traditional values and core identity, while orienting development, modernisation and building a lean-strong workforce in the coming years to continue maintaining the guiding role of the Party newspaper.

“With full confidence in the leadership of the Party, the support and assistance of ministries, sectors at central and local levels, and broad sections of the people, upholding our glorious tradition, we affirm our spirit of unity and efforts to study and strengthen our resolve to excellently fulfil the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State and the people. Nhan Dan Newspaper will continue to develop and make worthy contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation in the new era of strength, prosperity and happiness,” he emphasised.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leadership, General Secretary To Lam congratulated and commended generations of Nhan Dan journalists who have continuously strived to build a glorious tradition and achieve proud accomplishments.

The General Secretary stated that over more than seven decades, inheriting the glorious legacy of newspapers such as Thanh Nien, Tranh Dau, Co Giai Phong, and Su That, through challenging historical stages, Nhan Dan Newspaper has continuously developed and matured, always maintaining its role as a sharp ideological weapon of the Party; an effective information and propaganda instrument of Party committees and authorities at all levels; a reliable forum for Party members and the people; always excellently fulfilling its mission as the central organ of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the voice of the Party, the State and the people of Viet Nam, contributing to consolidating social trust and creating unity in awareness and action across the entire Party, people and army.

Recently, Nhan Dan Newspaper has actively implemented digital transformation, made efforts to explore and innovate methods of conveying information, forms of presentation, expanded communication platforms, enhanced persuasiveness and attractiveness, meeting increasingly high information demands of the public, gradually affirming its position as a major press agency of the Party and truly becoming the voice of the Party, the State and the people.

The General Secretary highly appreciated and commended the efforts of Nhan Dan journalists in affirming the principle: Wherever there are people, there is Nhan Dan Newspaper, thereby setting the task of making the newspaper increasingly close, attractive and practical, thus better fulfilling the role and political mission of the Party newspaper.

The General Secretary said that facing the requirements of a new stage of development, Nhan Dan Newspaper bears even heavier responsibilities and must seriously assess and identify limitations, challenges and difficulties in order to further promote its role as a sharp ideological weapon worthy of its position as the leading banner in the Party’s ideological work.

Suggesting several directions for the coming period, the General Secretary stated that Nhan Dan Newspaper must promote the strengths, traditions and distinctive identity of the Party newspaper; continue to maintain its role and position as a key force in information and communication work, orienting social public opinion, and effectively fulfilling its function as a sharp ideological weapon.

The newspaper must be a “vanguard unit”, a “shield”, and a sharp and firm information “sensor station”, proactive, close and responsive in capturing, providing and orienting information; closely adhering to its guiding principles, purposes and audiences; promptly and resolutely combating fake news, malicious and distorted information; while spreading kindness, positivity and good values in society.

“The Party newspaper must truly be pioneering and exemplary, becoming a reliable companion of a wide readership; not only reflecting reality but also encouraging and inspiring trust and responsibility, contributing to building social consensus under the leadership of the Party,” the General Secretary emphasised.

At the same time, Nhan Dan Newspaper must promote its core role in contributing to building a clean and strong Party and political system; resolutely addressing major, complex and urgent issues of the country, of Party building and of the political system.

General Secretary To Lam stressed that science, technology, innovation and digital transformation must truly become the driving forces for Nhan Dan Newspaper to develop multimedia and multi-platform journalism, truly occupy the digital and cyberspace, and truly become a newspaper characterised by “professionalism, humanity and modernity.”

In the Party’s ideological work, the Party newspaper must be a key and widespread information source, truly useful and practical to help cadres and Party members update important current affairs information. Each reporter, editor, technician and data specialist is a “soldier” on the information front, who must persistently and resolutely protect the Party’s ideological foundation, while maintaining calm, objectivity and professional standards, persuading through the quality of content and effectiveness in serving the people.

The General Secretary expressed confidence that with its glorious revolutionary tradition, Nhan Dan journalists will continue to promote valuable experience, strengthen determination and confidence, train political courage, improve professional expertise, strive to meet new mission requirements, and contribute together with the entire Party, people and army to successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress for the goal of building a peaceful, independent, democratic, strong, prosperous, civilised and happy Viet Nam, steadily advancing towards socialism.

On behalf of the staff of Nhan Dan Newspaper, responding to the remarks, Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, stated that the profound and specific directions of the General Secretary are important orientations for Nhan Dan Newspaper to continue implementing its development strategy in the coming period, in the context of the rapidly developing digital era where information and communication work is also changing quickly, requiring appropriate thinking and approaches suited to the new situation.

He affirmed that the collective of Nhan Dan journalists will continue striving and training to improve professional qualifications, strengthen political courage, build unity and solidarity, uphold the glorious tradition of the Party newspaper, and excellently fulfil the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State and the people, forever worthy of being the Party’s political-ideological banner on the journalism front.
