Policies to adapt to population ageing

In the 2025–2030 term, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Health has identified that one of its key tasks will be coordinating with ministries and sectors to formulate policies to adapt to population ageing, along with policies to encourage efforts to counter population ageing.

The Ministry of Health will focus on accelerating the development of a system of healthcare services, elderly care facilities, and community- and family-based chronic disease management services for older persons in an effort to meet the demands arising from population ageing.

At the same time, mechanisms and policies on population will be renewed and improved, effectively leveraging the golden population period, especially in adapting to the very rapid ageing process taking place in Viet Nam.

Population policy will shift its focus from family planning to population and development, with the aim of improving population quality and people’s health in terms of stature, longevity, physical condition, and mental well-being.

The Ministry of Health will closely coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to develop a national policy framework on population ageing; and introduce policies to firmly maintain replacement-level fertility and reduce disparities in fertility rates among regions.
