Prizes awarded at ten-year writing contest on Thang Long - Hanoi

Nhan Dan – An awards ceremony of the ten-year writing contest on ‘The Whole Country and the Capital Celebrate the Millennial Anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi’ was held in Hanoi on December 16 by the Ha Noi Moi (New Hanoi) newspaper.

Poet Hoang Viet Hang won the first prize, worth VND 10,000,000 (US$500) for her writing ‘Sang Chua’ (Going to the Pagoda), featuring the charity activity of adopting homeless children in Bo De pagoda, Gia Lam district, Hanoi.

‘Tam Nhin De Lai’ (The Retained Vision) by Thach Bach and ‘Cay Xanh – Gia Tri Khong The Thieu Cua Ha Noi’ (Green Trees – The Indispensable Value of Hanoi) by a group of authors Hoang Anh and Bao Lam were granted the second prizes worth VND 5,000,000 each.

Three third and 15 consolation prizes were also presented at the ceremony.

The contest, sponsored by Prudential Vietnam Life Insurance Co. Ltd, was launched in 2000. It drew big interest from thousands of professional and amateur writers and journalists across the country. Thousands of writings sent to the organising board, depicting the beauty, elegance, the thousand-year-old history and the dynamic development of Hanoi capital city.
