Programme introduces brocade weaving craft of Co Tu ethnic people

A programme introducing the traditional craft of brocade weaving of the Co Tu ethnic people was held at Da Nang Museum on December 24.

The event, co-organised by the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports, is part of a project to connect cultural heritage and tourism in communities of ethnic minorities.

The project took place within the framework of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s plan on implementing the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-2030 period.

Accordingly, the project targeted residential areas of ethnic minorities with similar heritage. The Quang Nam-Da Nang travel itinerary was selected, associated with and the craft of brocade weaving, which is practiced by Co Tu ethnic people in Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City and Dong Giang District.

The programme at Da Nang Museum included the screening on the craft of brocade weaving in the two communities, an exhibition of weaving products and tools, photos on the craft, on-site demonstrations of weaving techniques, and a performance of the ‘tung tung ya yá’ folk dance of the Co Tu people.
