The inclusion of Quy Nhon and other prominent destinations from countries around the world by the long-established and globally influential travel guide Lonely Planet is a meaningful recognition for the locality. For years, Quy Nhon has been regarded as a “hidden gem”, tucked between rolling mountain ranges and tranquil lagoons along Viet Nam’s central coast.
As a developing coastal city, Quy Nhon does not overwhelm visitors with skyscrapers or large-scale integrated resort complexes. Instead, its appeal lies in the subtle harmony between nature, culture and a relaxed pace of life. It is a place “where silky white-sand beaches meet ancient Cham temples, fishing villages and an outstandingly rich cuisine”, according to Lonely Planet.
The city is home to many well-known attractions, including Nhon Hai–Hon Kho, Ky Co–Eo Gio, Ghenh Rang Tien Sa, Cu Lao Xanh, ancient pagodas and Cham towers such as Thap Doi and Thap Banh It.
To explore areas beyond the city centre, visitors are encouraged to rent motorbikes or book guided motorbike tours to reach secluded bays and unspoilt beaches favoured by local residents.
In particular, community-based tourism in small, peaceful and rustic fishing villages has become increasingly popular with both domestic and international visitors in recent years. Notable examples include Nhon Ly, Nhon Hai, Bai Xep and Hai Minh.
Quy Nhon’s cuisine is another highlight, featuring local specialties such as fish-cake noodle soup, sizzling shrimp pancakes, fine rice vermicelli served with offal porridge, and fresh seafood prepared in a simple but richly flavoured local style.
Located roughly midway between two famous coastal tourism hubs—Da Nang and Nha Trang—Quy Nhon is easily accessible by rail, road, waterway and air, making it an ideal stop for travellers planning to explore Viet Nam’s long coastline.
Lonely Planet also suggests international visitors that Quy Nhon enjoys pleasant weather year-round, with the best time to visit from December to April, when daytime temperatures range from 22°C to 28°C, most days are sunny, rainfall is low, and conditions are ideal for sightseeing, beach activities and water sports. From June to August, temperatures peak at around 30°C to 34°C, coinciding with the busiest season for domestic tourism.
