The forum aims to create a clear development roadmap for the construction industry in the journey to achieve the Net Zero 2050 goal, through key themes such as expanding the scale of green construction, shifting from green buildings to low-emission urban areas, decarbonising the construction environment in Southeast Asia, and promoting the three pillars of materials, technology, and finance.
The forum is sponsored by the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the Ha Noi People's Committee.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh acknowledged the positive progress in the development of green works and green materials. So far, Viet Nam has about 830 green building certifications with a total floor area of about 20.8 million square metres, exceeding the set target.
Many businesses have responded strongly, notably with the development of non-fired building material factories, with about 2,900 production facilities. The industry is also transitioning from fossil fuels to lower-emission fuels such as coal to natural gas. Furthermore, the utilisation of industrial waste such as ash, slag, and gypsum for the production of construction materials is gaining traction in line with the circular economy principle.
However, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh also pointed out the major challenges facing the industry. Firstly, the cost of technological innovation and green building solutions remains high, while businesses' ability to mobilise resources is limited. In addition, some businesses and users do not fully understand the long-term benefits of green buildings. The Deputy Minister also noted that policies on green credit, investment incentives, taxes, and financial tools supporting green transformation need to become more attractive to encourage businesses to boldly implement them. Nguyen Van Sinh highly appreciated the VSCF forum as a place that brings together managers, experts, and businesses to share knowledge and connect investments, creating opportunities to enhance knowledge sharing, introduce advanced technologies and solutions to promote the development of green buildings and materials.
In his opening speech, Vice President of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Nguyen Quang Vinh affirmed that sustainable development is the "passport" that helps businesses export and enhance their competitiveness.
The VCCI Vice President also stated that the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050 is not simply an environmental commitment, but a driving force for innovation of the growth model. He also noted that today's construction projects will determine the quality of life and climate change resilience of future generations.
On this occasion, he encouraged businesses to use the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) as a reference tool for corporate governance and responsible business transformation. He emphasised that green transformation should be a process embraced by small, medium, and micro-enterprises, not just large corporations.
Acknowledging these contributions, Dinh Hong Ky, Head of the VSCF 2026 Organising Committee and President of the Saigon Construction & Building Material Association (SACA), stressed that sustainable development is no longer an option but a prerequisite for the construction industry to enhance its competitiveness in the new period.
On this occasion, Dinh Hong Ky pledged that the SACA and the VSCF will listen to the difficulties faced by businesses, relay feedback to relevant authorities, and disseminate new regulations in the most easily applicable way.
Within the framework of the opening ceremony, the Ministry of Construction awarded a certificate of merit to SACA to recognise the association's efforts and effective activities in the green transformation process, towards a circular economy and low emissions.
Bringing together leading reputable organisations, VSCF 2026 contributes to connecting initiatives, policies, and practical solutions, thereby creating leverage to strongly promote the green transformation process of Viet Nam's construction industry.
