The policy is expected to support early detection and preventive care throughout people’s lives, while also helping to reduce the strain on healthcare facilities.
Specifically, the Prime Minister asked leaders of provinces and cities to identify this as a key long-term task linked to socio-economic development plans, social welfare programmes, and efforts to improve living standards for residents.
The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Health to coordinate with relevant ministries, agencies, and local authorities to develop guidelines for organising free periodic health check-ups and screening programmes that ensure the effectiveness, feasibility, and achievement of the stated goals.
The ministry is also tasked with directing healthcare facilities to create and maintain electronic health records, strengthening the capacity of grassroots and preventive healthcare systems, ensuring adequate staffing and medical equipment, and organising training for healthcare personnel involved in the programme’s implementation.
Deputy Minister of Health Vu Manh Ha stated that free annual health check-ups would enable the early detection, prevention, and treatment of diseases, and thereby reduce the burden of disease and associated medical costs.
The programme would also help build a national health management database, ensuring that every citizen receives comprehensive, continuous healthcare across their lifespan.
