The event was co-chaired by Do Thang Hai, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, and Ambassador María Cristina Boldorini, the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship’s Secretary for International Economic Relations.
According to the report by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, two-way trade has risen by 13.1% since last year. As of early November, Vietnam had earned US$302.3 million from exports to Argentina and spent US$2.12 billion on imports from the Latin American country this year, up 15.8% compared to last year.
The report estimated that the figure would reach nearly US$3 billion by the end of the year.
Ranking 80th among the 112 countries and territories invested in Vietnam, Argentina is currently invested in four projects in the country worth a total of US$3.2 million.
At the meeting on December 2, Deputy Minister Hai said a number of commitments in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, healthcare, culture, medicine and technology had been delivered on since the committee’s fourth meeting in 2014.
The two sides signed an agreement regulating food safety in June 2014 under which 206 Vietnamese seafood processors were granted permission to export to Argentina while 36 Argentine meat producers and 221 seafood processors gained access to the Vietnamese market.
At yesterday’s meeting, Deputy Minister Hai went on to speak highly of joint technical cooperation projects within the framework of Argentina’s South-South and Triangular Cooperation Fund.
Also at the meeting, the two countries agreed on eleven quarantine certificate samples for Argentine animal products, including frozen beef and lamb, milk and dairy products.
Vietnam is working to export dragon fruits, longans, litchis and mangoes to the Argentine market while Argentina has applied to export oranges, lemons, blueberries, apples, grapefruits, tangerines, pears and sweet cherries to Vietnam.
