Vietnam bags three gold medals at 2014 IMO

Nhan Dan Online – Vietnam has won three gold medals at the 2014 International Mathematical Olympiad in South Africa, the Ministry of Education and Training announced on July 12.

The three gold medal winners are 11th grader, Nguyen The Hoan from Hanoi and two 12th graders, Tran Hong Quan and Pham Tuan Huy, from Thai Binh and Ho Chi Minh City respectively.

Last year, Pham Tuan Huy also won a gold medal at the IMO in Colombia.

In addition, the Vietnamese team collected two silver medals, which went to Vuong Nguyen Thuy Duong from Da Nang and Ho Quoc Dang Hung from Ho Chi Minh City, and one bronze to Nguyen Huy Tung from Hai Phong.

In the team rankings, Vietnam came in at the 10th position behind China, the US, Taiwan (China), Russia, Japan, Ukraine, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and Canada.

The 2014 International Mathematical Olympiad drew the participation of 560 students from 101 countries and territories.
