The opening ceremony of the event was attended by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh, and Vietnamese leaders from Mekong Delta provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese Week in Thailand introduces culture, tourism and specialties from the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City as well as OCOP products from other provinces. The event also opens opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to connect with retail distribution systems in Thailand.

This year’s event attracted the largest number of enterprises ever with the participation of 100 Vietnamese enterprises. They are showcasing their products on a total area of nearly 1,000m2.

A business matchmaking event will also be included within the week-long event to connect Vietnamese and Thai enterprises in diverse areas including food, home appliances, furniture, hotels, and others.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai emphasised that the Vietnamese Government has created favourable conditions for enterprises to directly export to markets, including Thailand. The Vietnamese Week in Thailand is an important annual event, contributing to creating a spillover effect and spurring import and export revenue between the two countries, Hai added.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanawisit stressed the closeness of the fine relationship between Thailand and Vietnam within ASEAN. He noted that the Vietnamese Week in Thailand will be a good chance to strengthen trade, investment, and tourism relations between the two countries.

The event will run until August 20, 2023.
