Covering an area of 115 hectares, the US$1.2 billion plant will have two turbine units with a combined capacity of 1,200 MW.
Its first turbine unit is scheduled to generate electricity in 2014 and the whole plant is expected to be completed one year later, thus adding around 7.8 billion Kwh of electricity to the national grid per year.
The plant is an important project in the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam)’s development strategy of power supply sources until 2015 with an orientation for 2015.
Long Phu 1 is one of the three coal-fueled power plants in the Long Phu Electricity Centre which has a total design capacity of 4,400 MW.
