“Xay Tet 2026” recognises contributions of Ha Noi drainage workers

More than 500 urban drainage workers in Ha Noi were honoured on the afternoon of February 2 through the programme Xay Tet 2026 (Building Tet), jointly organised by Nhan Dan newspaper and Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company, in recognition of their quiet yet vital contributions to the capital city.

Now in its fourth year, Xay Tet has grown into a meaningful social initiative that highlights the values of occupational safety, community solidarity and gratitude towards workers during the Lunar New Year.

Originally launched to honour construction workers, the programme has expanded its reach over the past three years to 22 provinces and cities and 145 worksites nationwide, delivering nearly 50,000 Tet gift packages.

This year marks a new step as Xay Tet extends its appreciation to urban drainage workers — those who work tirelessly beneath the streets to protect the city’s environment, regardless of harsh weather conditions. At the event, 30 exemplary workers represented more than 500 staff members of Ha Noi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company, all of whom received Tet gifts.

The programme was supported by World Milk Investment Joint Stock Company and the Long Chau Pharmacy and Vaccination Centre System.

Speaking at the event, Ngo Viet Anh, Director of the Media Development Centre of Nhan Dan Newspaper, said the programme coincided with celebrations of the successful 14th National Party Congress and the upcoming Lunar New Year. He noted that the expansion of Xay Tet to special labour forces reflected its growing humanitarian spirit.

Workers attending the event expressed appreciation for the encouragement. Many described their work as physically demanding and hazardous, often carried out during floods, storms or late at night, yet essential to maintaining urban safety and daily life in the capital.

Representing the drainage company, Deputy General Director Trinh Ngoc Son said the programme carried deep humanistic value, offering not only material support but also strong moral encouragement. He stressed that such recognition motivates workers to remain committed to their profession and continue safeguarding Ha Noi’s environment.
