The opening ceremony took place on June 19, featuring entertainment performances, the presentation of commemorative flags, and illuminated kite displays. In the following days, competitions will continue in the categories of frameless kites, kite trains, and team kite flying. The closing ceremony and awards gala will take place on June 21. In addition to the main prizes, the organising committee will present special awards, including Best Kite, Most Impressive Ground Display Kite, and Most Popular Kite, chosen via online voting.
According to the organising committee, the Art Kite Festival has drawn 12 clubs and teams from within and outside the province. Artisans are showcasing a variety of distinctive kite forms, including frameless kites, kite trains, and team kites. The judging panel comprises seven respected kite artisans who have participated in international kite festivals, alongside representatives of the Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the head of the organising committee.
Complementing the Art Kite Festival, a street food programme runs at the parking area on Nguyen Thiep Street, north of Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, from June 19 to 25.
The event brings together 61 food stalls representing the northern, central, and southern regions of Viet Nam, featuring a wide range of signature dishes and OCOP products from Quy Nhon Ward and other localities. It provides visitors with an opportunity to experience the diversity of Vietnamese culinary culture and explore the distinctive characteristics of different regions. The event also helps promote Quy Nhon as an attractive tourism destination during National Tourism Year – Gia Lai 2026.
According to Phan Tuan Hoang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quy Nhon Ward, the Art Kite Festival and Culinary Programme aim to promote traditional cultural values, create a tourism highlight, and provide a platform for cultural exchange between kite artisans and food service businesses.
The event is expected to stimulate tourism demand, improve service quality, and establish the Art Kite Festival as an annual tourism product for Quy Nhon.
