Blind Japanese pianist to perform in Vietnam

Nhan Dan Online – Vietnamese audiences will have the chance to enjoy the talent of well-known blind Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii during his solo performances at the Hanoi Opera House on June 19 and the National Academy of Music in Ho Chi Minh City on June 21.

The performances are part of the ongoing activities to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

Nobuyuki Tsujii was born in Tokyo in 1988 and began learning to play piano at the age of two. He debuted with the Osaka orchestra when he was ten years old.

He has won numerous prestigious awards including first prize at the 1995 All Japan Music of Blind Students competition organised by the Tokyo Helen Keller Association and the Critics’ Choice Award at the 15th International Frederik Chopin Piano Competition in Poland in 2005. He is also the first blind artist to win a gold medal at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in the United States.
