According to a report by the Medical Services Administration, in 2025 the healthcare system ensured medical examination and treatment services for nearly 200 million patient visits. The health sector also successfully fulfilled major political tasks and provided medical services for important national events, including the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification; the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam; and the 14th National Party Congress. Many hospitals successfully implemented advanced and highly specialised medical techniques, contributing to improved quality of medical examination and treatment.
Notably, in 2025, administrative procedure reform was strongly promoted, reducing procedures from 106 to 19—an over 82% reduction—helping citizens and medical facilities save time and costs while enhancing transparency in management. This represents a concrete step in realising the requirement of “placing people at the centre, with grassroots healthcare as the foundation” as set out in Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW.
Digital transformation in medical examination and treatment has been identified as a key strategic priority, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive healthcare data ecosystem. The Ministry of Health has completed three core databases, including the database of healthcare practitioners; the database of medical examination and treatment establishments; and the electronic prescription database.
The healthcare system has also focused on developing and implementing a range of projects, including the Project on Developing the Out-of-Hospital Emergency System for 2026–2030; the Project on Developing Medical Tourism for 2026–2030; the Project on Developing Highly Specialised Medical Centres; the Project on Strengthening Capacity in Forensic Medicine, Forensic Psychiatry and Compulsory Treatment for 2026–2030; and the Project on Enhancing Professional Capacity, supporting training, transferring medical techniques and developing a network of satellite hospitals for 2026–2030.
In 2026, the medical examination and treatment system will continue to effectively implement tasks under Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW on breakthrough solutions to strengthen people’s healthcare, and Resolution No. 282/NQ-CP on the Government’s Action Programme to implement Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW, with the aim of building a modern, equitable, efficient and people-centred healthcare system.
