Of the total, the export revenue of wood and wood products posted at 14.72 billion USD, while the export revenue of other forestry products was 1.15 billion USD.
Meanwhile, the import value of wood and wood products reached about 2.93 billion USD in 2021, up 14.2% over the same period last year. The trade surplus for the whole year is estimated at 12.94 billion USD, up 21.2% over 2020.
“By the end of December 2021, the export value of forest products accounts for over 30% of the total export value of the agro-forestry-fishery industry and makes up 4.7% of the Vietnam’s total export turnover, making it one of the seven items with an export value of over 10 billion USD. The trade surplus of forest products is the largest in the group of agro-forestry-fishery industry, making an important contribution to the trade surplus of the entire industry,” said Deputy Director of the General Department of Forestry Bui Chinh Nghia.
Nguyen Van Dien, Director of the Forestry Production Development Department, said that 2021 has been a difficult year for the whole forestry industry due to the impact of the pandemic and trade remedy measures. However, the success in concluding the US 301 investigation has made an important contribution to increasing export turnover of forest products.
The export revenue of 15.87 billion USD is a very impressive number, expressing the spectacular recovery of the business community, in the last few months of the year, Dien noted.
In 2022, the forestry sector aims to maintain the forest coverage rate of 42% and achieve a total export value of 16 billion USD.
