The auction brought together Nguyen Thien Van, Vice Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee; leaders of provincial departments and agencies; numerous businesses and cooperatives involved in the production, purchase, and export of durians; and durian growers in the area.
Speaking at the event, Lai Duc Dai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong Pac Commune, asserted that this is the first time the People's Committee of Krong Pac Commune has organised a durian auction at the orchard, and it is also the first locality in Dak Lak Province to do so. This is not just a simple trade promotion activity, but also a milestone affirming the determination to innovate management thinking, modernise market connection methods, and gradually build a sustainable value chain for the durian industry.
Krong Pac has long been known as a fertile basalt red soil area with a favourable climate, highly conducive to the development of durian trees. To date, the locality has over 3,000 hectares of durian with an estimated production of about 50,000 tonnes in 2026, with a total estimated value of about 3 trillion VND, including many concentrated production areas and numerous planting area codes serving export purposes. This demonstrates that the durian is increasingly solidifying its quality and reputation in both domestic and international markets.
Durian is not only a crop that yields high economic value but also sustains the livelihoods of thousands of households, substantially contributing to economic growth, improving people's lives, and building new-style rural areas in the locality.
“The local authorities have always been focused on several crucial questions: How can farmers not only sell their produce but also realise its true value? How can businesses gain access to high-quality, transparent, and stable growing areas? How can we create an open, healthy competitive trading environment that harmonises benefits for all parties? These are precisely the reasons why we have taken the initiative to study and establish an auction model for durians directly at the orchard,” stated Lai Duc Dai, Chairman of the Krong Pac Commune People's Committee.
The first durian auction at the orchard drew the participation of 10 businesses and cooperatives, bidding for 14.36 hectares of Dona durians grown in VietGAP-certified orchards. The fruit, supplied by 10 farming households, had been tested and confirmed to be free from cadmium and other heavy metals. The estimated output was approximately 350 tonnes, with a starting price of 55,000 VND per kg.
After two rounds of bidding, Nguyen Thuan Agricultural Import-Export Company Limited outbid the other nine businesses and secured the winning bid with a bid of 68,000 VND per kg. The total value of the consignment reached 23.8 billion VND.
Expressing his delight at the success of the first auction, the Chairman of the Krong Pac Commune People's Committee asserted that the auction was not simply about trading a few consignments. More importantly, it signified the inception of a new trading model. Under this model, product quality is given top priority; value is determined through open and transparent competition; producers have the opportunity to present their own products; and businesses can directly inspect the growing areas, assess product quality, and select the produce that best meets their needs.
The local authorities serve as a bridge, fostering a favourable environment in which all parties can cooperate on an equal, transparent, and mutually beneficial basis. This is also one of the key objectives that Dak Lak Province is advancing in developing the durian value chain.
In addition, the success of the auction serves to introduce and promote the Krong Pac durian brand among businesses, distributors, and consumers both at home and abroad. It honours outstanding durian orchards with high-quality products that meet export standards. It also honours orchards that follow high-quality production standards, have officially registered growing area codes, and meet export requirements. Furthermore, it catalyses the transformation of agricultural production towards a modern, transparent, and fully traceable model.
