The statement was made by Chu Ngoc Anh, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee on February 19, when he and the delegation of the European Commission (EC) led by EC Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans, made an on-site inspection overviewing the construction site of the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station urban rail project.
The visit is part of EC Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans work agenda from February 17 to 19, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh.
In the past, the relationship between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) has made rapid and steady developments in all aspects. The EU has become an important partner and leading donor to Vietnam in many fields, including urban transport development projects. In particular, the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station urban rail project is considered a symbol of cooperation between Vietnam and France, especially in the context that the two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023.
At the meeting, EC Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans and the delegation went to S8 - Cau Giay station, listening to a brief report on the urban railway system planning of Hanoi city, the implementation status of the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station urban rail project; inspect the train and travel by rail from S8 station to the depot area.
According to Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station urban rail project, so far has achieved the overall progress of 74.36%, of which the elevated section has reached 94.7%. Pursuant to the Joint Statement between Vietnam and France, during the visit to France by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in November 2021, the elevated section of the project will be completed and put into commercial operation by December 2022.
Frans Timmermans highly appreciated the role of Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station urban rail project; he expressed his hope the project will overcome difficulties, and soon be put into operation, solve traffic congestion problems, improve the environment, develop a green - clean - beautiful capital, bringing benefits to the people.
Thanks to EC Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans and donors, Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh affirmed that, in the face of many difficulties, Hanoi remains determined to work closely, solve problem and speed up the project progress.
Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh expressed his hope to continue receiving the attention and support of the European Commission, for other projects in the urban railway network of the capital.
