The preparation atmosphere for the programme is heating up across provinces and cities nationwide. This is the first walking event organised at the national level, as part of a series of sports–cultural–artistic–interactive activities to commemorate the August Revolution, National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025) and the Traditional Day of the Public Security Forces (August 19, 1945– August 19, 2025).

The programme is held in two forms of online and in person. For the online format, people nationwide can register to walk every day via the event’s official website.

For direct participants, from 6am to 7.30am on August 16, 2025, in all localities nationwide, everyone will wear red shirts with yellow stars, sing the National Anthem, and march together for a united, strong, and sustainable Viet Nam.

Specially, on the morning of August 16, before the nationwide walking activity begins, the programme will feature a live connection (livestream on Nhan Dan Newspaper’s platform) to the flag-raising ceremony at Ba Dinh Square. It is expected that 10,000 people will directly participate in the event in Ha Noi and sing the National Anthem, sharing a heartbeat with the Fatherland.

At the same time, in Ho Chi Minh City, about 90,000 people are expected to participate in the event. In other provinces and cities across the country, an estimated 5,000–6,000 people will take part in person in each locality. The total number of people walking in person nationwide is expected to be 200,000.

As of 8am on August 14, the number of online registrations on the official website “Marching Forward with Viet Nam” had reached nearly 56,000, equivalent to more than 202 million of accumulated steps and a reduction of over 22,600 kg of CO₂ emissions.

With the main message “One Billion Steps into a New Era”, the event is expected to mobilise the collective strength of millions of people across the country to walk together, marking one billion steps for health, solidarity, and the aspiration to rise of a nation undergoing a strong transformation in the new era.

According to Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilisation, Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists’ Association, and Head of the Steering Committee of “Marching Forward with Viet Nam” event, the programme had long been nurtured by the Organising Committee and became a reality thanks to close coordination of the Ministry of Public Security.

“In addition to the goal of improving public health, the programme also contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions, moving towards a green lifestyle,” Le Quoc Minh emphasised.
