As of July 5, there were more than 340,000 new beneficiaries of unemployment insurance, according to Vietnam Social Security (VSS).

More than 340,000 new beneficiaries of unemployment insurance recorded

The first six months of 2021 were a difficult period in the context of the complicated developments of the COVID-19 epidemic. The epidemic has negatively affected the collection and development of social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance.

As of July 5, the whole country is estimated to have 16.17 million people participating in social insurance, accounting for 32.49% of the labour force. There are 340,289 new beneficiaries of unemployment insurance.

The revenue from social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance was estimated at VND195,143 billion, reaching 45.23% of the plan assigned by the Government in 2021. The total debt of social, health and unemployment insurance is VND21,194 billion.

The number of people participating in unemployment insurance increased more than in the same period in 2020, but decreased compared to the end of last year. The number of people participating in unemployment insurance is over 13.2 million people, 26.64% of the labour force, a decrease of more than 69,800 people compared to the end of 2020.

In line with the development of the COVID-19 epidemic, the VSS has stepped up its inspection and examination in electronic form. By the end of May 2021, specialised inspection had discovered 4,116 employees required to participate in social insurance, unemployment insurance, and health insurance but who have not yet participated or are short. The amount of arrears is more than VND23.86 billion; 11,085 employees paid less than the prescribed amount with arrears of VND16.61 billion.
