At the Cross-Border E-commerce Forum 2025 held on December 18 in Ha Noi, experts unanimously agreed that online export is an inevitable trend, but sustainable development requires synchronised logistics infrastructure, improved institutions, simplified procedures, and enhanced connectivity through associations, thereby helping Vietnamese goods reach further in the global market.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, by 2025, Viet Nam’s e-commerce market was estimated to reach 31 billion USD, a growth rate of over 25%, accounting for approximately 10% of total retail sales of goods and consumer services. Viet Nam will maintain its position in the Top 10 countries with the fastest e-commerce growth rate in the world and rank third in market size in ASEAN (after Indonesia and Thailand).
The 2026-2030 period is considered a pivotal time for Viet Nam to aim towards becoming a regional e-commerce export hub, with cross-border e-commerce playing a particularly important role.
According to Nguyen Thuy Anh, Deputy Head of the Viet Nam's E-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the rapid growth of cross-border e-commerce has opened up significant opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to access the global market, while also creating an urgent need to improve the legal framework for effective management, consumer protection, and a fair competitive environment.
Thuy Anh also stated that during the 2026-2030 period, the management agency will continue to cooperate with international e-commerce platforms, promote training, provide digital documents and legal guidance, helping small and medium-sized enterprises improve their compliance capacity and effectively exploit cross-border e-commerce.
