At many literary seminars and discussions, experts have devoted much effort to sharing the responsibilities and aspirations of writers with poetry today.
Poet Nguyen Binh Phuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Writers Association, emphasised that the responsibility of a writer is not only to bring out the most perfect work according to his own ideas but also the responsibility to the public.
Literature, in general, has a great influence, in which, poetry not only helps people overcome difficulties, and see the beauty of life but also distils another higher beauty. Poetry is responsible for bringing people to the shore of humane aspirations. Where we receive lessons about understanding and sharing between ourselves and our fellow human beings, with nature, to communicate with the softness of love.
Poet Tran Anh Thai, Chairman of the Poetry Council of the Vietnam Writers' Association, commented that in recent years, poetry has had a new life and appearance expressed through new trends, aesthetics, and functions with a myriad of forms.
Poets delve into self-discovery, not leaving behind the country's issues. However, there are worries and concerns. Low-quality poetry, awards and titles are rampant, true values are hidden. The worrying problem is that poetry seems to lack vitality, no longer creating a deep impression on readers, especially the young.
Many works are easily forgotten because they lack innovation and breakthroughs, or create strong impacts on culture and society. Vietnamese poetry works that have won prestigious literary awards in the world are too few. Literary critics emphasise that poetry cannot rely solely on traditional values but needs to change to adapt to the times.
The explosion of technology and multimedia has deeply penetrated society, opening up rich channels for receiving poetry. The fact that poetry can coordinate public attention and touch on hot social issues is the decisive factor in creating a great impact in the present era.
Doctor of Education, poet Nguyen Thuy Anh expressed optimism when saying that the fluttering soul of the Vietnamese people is still reserved for poetry with love and passion, especially the emotion of many generations of poets when composing about Truong Sa, Hoang Sa and the war to protect the northern border. The poems are both heroic and profound, creating strong emotional effects. In recent years, several young poets have won prestigious literary awards on major topics, such as Revolutionary War, and National Sovereignty.
When people are not indifferent to poetry, but listen to poetry to enjoy and share, spiritual values are always cherished. Of course, to spread more effectively, there must be more exploration and combination.
According to experts, for Vietnamese poetry to affirm its position in the country's literature and reach the international level, there must be several specific solutions. Chairman of the Vietnam Writers' Association Nguyen Quang Thieu said that, first of all, it is necessary to innovate the content and creative thinking. Poetry must be closely linked to life, reflect profound social and human issues and generalise humanistic values.
Poetry must be beautiful in form, have depth of thought, create empathy and move the hearts of readers. In addition, translation, promotion and international cultural exchange must be given due attention.
A noteworthy fact is that training programs and support for young talents in developing their creative careers are still limited. Many local literary and artistic associations have not effectively promoted or developed talent.
According to experts, in the digital age, it is necessary to strengthen breakthrough solutions to help connect poetry with modern advances and trends. These include creating online platforms dedicated to poetry, closely monitoring copyright protection and publishing e-books, creating an open playground domestically and internationally and encouraging multimedia poetry products.
During Vietnam Poetry Day 2025, it can be seen that some new methods have been effectively implemented in some localities, such as at the Museum of Cultures of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups, and the Thai Nguyen Literature and Arts Association organised Poetry Day with the theme "New Spring, New Poetry". After the authors performed their works, professional writers and poets commented on the poems directly, sharing the structure, ideas, poetic content and artistic techniques.
The Dak Lak Provincial Literature and Arts Association organises many diverse activities, in which the highlight is the literature and arts stations with the participation of many forces in society.
Literature in general, poetry in particular always faces the challenge of innovation in aspiring to preserve traditional cultural values and conquer new things, reaching out to the world.
To do that, the writer doesn’t just stop at pure creativity but needs depth of thought and appropriate strategy. When poetry expands its range further, touches on the burning issues of society and humanity, and meets the spiritual needs of readers at the highest level, then its mission is convincingly affirmed.
