The event was also attended by former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan who is also Chairwoman of the Vietnam Study Promotion Society.
At the meeting, President Phuc granted six second-class and 11 third-class Labour Orders to 17 high school students who have gained outstanding achievements at the International Olympiads in different subjects in 2021.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son and First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan also presented the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit to six students.
This year, all seven delegations of Vietnamese students participating in Olympiad competitions in the categories of Asia-Pacific and International Informatics, Asia-Pacific and International Physics, International Mathematics, and International Chemistry bagged medals, including 12 golds, 13 silvers, 10 bronzes and two consolation prizes.
Vietnam continued to rank in top ten countries with the highest results in international Olympiads.
At the International Science and Engineering Fair 2021, Vietnam participated for the first time in online form with seven projects and won one third and three special prizes.

Speaking at the meeting, the President noted that the students are the pride of Vietnam while congratulating the teachers and the entire educational sector for this achievement.
President Phuc said Vietnam’s position in the top of the countries with the most medals in the international Olympiads showed the intelligence and creativity of Vietnamese people and reflected the increasingly improved of the educational quality of the country.
The State leader asked the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Vietnam Study Promotion Society to continue launching further studying and training movements.
He also expressed his hope that the country’s talents would make greater efforts to help the country further develop and catch up with the world in science and technology, towards settling the challenges for the development.
The President stressed the necessity to launch creative innovation movements associated with studying movements.

Earlier on December 18, the Ministry of Education and Training held a ceremony to meet and honour the outstanding winners of international Olympiads and science and technology contests in 2021.
