At the ceremony, President Sang joined Buddhists to pray for peace and prosperity for the nation.

Located on a mountain cliff in Cao Bang province’s Trung Khanh district, Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc is the first Buddhist monastery built in the border area to the north of the country.

Work on the temple started in June 2013 and its total cost of construction is estimated at VND38 billion (US$1.8 million).

Leaning on Phia Nham Mountain, Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc overlooks the entire Ban Gioc waterfall and features the traditional architecture of a Vietnamese Buddhist temple.

The temple also reserves a special space dedicated to local hero Nung Tri Cao.

The same day, President Truong Tan Sang also attended the opening ceremony of the Saigon-Ban Gioc resort, a co-operative project between Cao Bang province and Ho Chi Minh City to serve tourists to the awe-inspiring waterfall.
