With the approval of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, on April 30, 2026, Dr Phan Xuan Dung was formally awarded the title of honorary professor at the MPEI in Russia.

The conferment ceremony took place following formal proceedings, including a performance by the university choir of its traditional anthem. In its address, the university highlighted Dr Phan Xuan Dung’s significant contributions to scientific and technological research, particularly in promoting cooperation in nuclear energy research related to the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project, as well as in the development of clean and renewable energy in Viet Nam.

Dr Phan Xuan Dung has served as President and Vice President of the Viet Nam–Russian Federation Friendship Parliamentarians Group for many years, making notable contributions to scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. He has been awarded numerous prestigious honours by the State of Viet Nam, as well as commendations from Russia.

During the solemn ceremony, university representatives conferred the honorary academic robe upon Dr Phan Xuan Dung and formally presented him with the title of professor.

In his remarks, a representative of the university expressed high appreciation for Dr Phan Xuan Dung’s contributions to bilateral relations and voiced hope that scientific and technological cooperation between Viet Nam and the Russian Federation would continue to be strengthened.

Deeply honoured and moved, Professor Phan Xuan Dung expressed his sincere appreciation for the people and the country of the former Soviet Union and present-day Russia, which have trained generations of Vietnamese scientists and technologists, including himself, from undergraduate to doctoral levels.

He emphasised the strong and effective relationship between VUSTA and MPEI, noting that in recent years both sides have carried out many practical and effective activities in training, scientific research, academic exchange, and the development of high-quality human resources.

In a world undergoing rapid transformation, science and technology play a pivotal role in sustainable development. Cooperation in science and technology, particularly in the energy sector between Viet Nam and the Russian Federation, continues to deepen and expand.

Dr Phan Xuan Dung expressed confidence that the partnership between VUSTA and MPEI will be further strengthened and elevated to new heights, especially in technology transfer, human resource training, and connecting the scientific and technological communities of both countries.

Dr Phan Xuan Dung is the first Vietnamese citizen to be awarded an honorary professor title by the MPEI and to be included on the university’s honour roll alongside renowned scientists from around the world. This distinction is not only a personal honour for him but also acts as a source of pride for Viet Nam’s scientific and technological community and VUSTA.

The awarding of the honorary professor title by the MPEI to the President of VUSTA is expected to further promote and deepen cooperation between Viet Nam and Russia in general, and between VUSTA and MPEI in particular.
