The announcement was made by the Viet Nam Writers’ Association at a press conference in Ha Noi on February 25.
Speaking at the event, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Viet Nam Writers’ Association, emphasised that Viet Nam Poetry Day has long been a cultural occasion of profound social significance—where poetry engages directly with the public and transmits the nation’s enduring spiritual values.
This year’s theme, “Before the Great Sea”, was chosen in the special context of the successful conclusion of the 14th National Party Congress, which opened a new phase of development for the country with a long-term vision and a strong aspiration to rise.
In this flow, the “great sea” symbolises the drive for integration, globalisation, scientific and technological progress, and deep transformations in culture, ideology, and lifestyle. Confronting that “great sea”, the “national ship” requires resilience, wisdom, and cultural depth—not to be swept away, but to advance with confidence.
Poetry, as a unique form of aesthetic consciousness, plays an irreplaceable role in nurturing spiritual life, preserving cultural roots, and fostering the aspirations and character of the Vietnamese people. This is the core message the 24th Viet Nam Poetry Day seeks to convey to the public.
A highlight of the 2026 celebration will be a poetry night bringing together poets from multiple generations, creating a polyphonic portrait of contemporary Vietnamese verse.
The programme will also feature a seminar entitled “The Dignity of Poetry”, an open art space, and the launch of the anthology “Before the Great Sea”.
On this occasion, groups of poets will visit mines, schools, factories, and military units to read poetry and engage with the public—bringing poetry back to the heartbeat of labour and everyday life.
