The event formed part of activities marking the forthcoming election of the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–31 term.
Speakers emphasised that women’s participation in politics is a key indicator of social progress, a vital driver of socioeconomic development, and an essential factor in achieving gender equality and advancing sustainable development goals. With their potential and strengths, women contribute diverse perspectives, experiences, and leadership skills, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and policy implementation.
The proportion of female deputies in the 15th National Assembly (2021–2026) reached 30.26 per cent, with 151 women among 499 deputies. This exceeded the set target and marked the highest figure since the 6th tenure, representing a 3.54 per cent increase compared with the 14th tenure.
While this is an impressive achievement in both quantity and quality, participants noted that significant gender gaps remain in the political sphere.
At the roundtable, organisers presented awards to winners of a writing contest on promoting women’s participation in politics. The competition, hosted by the Viet Nam Women’s Academy, attracted nearly 40 entries from university students.
One first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, and three consolation prizes were awarded to outstanding submissions.
