With the aim of promoting Azerbaijan’s tourism potential to Vietnamese people, during the working trip to Viet Nam, a delegation from the Azerbaijan Tourism Board and Azerbaijani travel and hotel businesses took part in the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo (ITE HCMC 2025) held in early September.
CEO Florian Sengstschmid shared that Viet Nam is a favourite destination for the Azerbaijani people. They enjoy visiting beaches during the summer and many destinations are attractive to them, such as Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc.
“Azerbaijani people have long holidays in March and usually take family trips lasting 10–14 days during this period. However, there are no direct flights between the two countries, the number of Azerbaijani visitors to Viet Nam remains modest,” said Florian Sengstschmid.
He proposed strengthening the organisation of charter flights and expressed the desire to hold a business-matching session from both sides to better understand the market, customer profiles, and business needs in order to create a long-term connection channel.
The Azerbaijan Tourism Board requested that the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism support connections with Vietnamese tourism businesses to implement this initiative. Forms of cooperation could include workshops, online conferences, or in-person meetings.
According to Deputy Director Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai, the potential for tourist exchange between Viet Nam and Azerbaijan remains very large. She agreed with the proposals to establish cooperative relations between the two national tourism management authorities, thereby creating opportunities for businesses of both sides to connect and promote tourism activities.
In addition, the tourism management bodies of the two countries could organise famtrips, creating opportunities for mutual visits to explore tourism potential. At the same time, the Vietnamese side requested that Azerbaijan provide more information on the characteristics and needs of local tourists to help design suitable tourism products.
Viet Nam and Azerbaijan have both applied e-visa policies for each other, with a stay of up to 90 days. This is a favourable condition to promote the exchange of tourists between the two countries.
In August 2025, leaders of the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism and the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Viet Nam held discussions on measures to promote tourism cooperation. Both sides have also encouraged tourism businesses to participate in each other’s international travel fairs, such as the Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair and the Baku Travel Fair in Azerbaijan, and the Viet Nam International Travel Mart (VITM) and the Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo in Viet Nam.
