The initiative, led by Viet Nam’s Green Economics Institute and Cuba’s Labiofam Group, brings together more than 45 research institutes, hospitals, universities, and enterprises from both countries engaged in biotechnology, medicine, agriculture, and the green economy.
Speaking at the launch, Duong Bich Diep, Director of the Green Economics Institute, emphasised that the network serves as a bridge to bring Cuba’s biotechnological knowledge and products to Viet Nam and the region, while accompanying Cuba’s development efforts with Vietnamese scientific expertise.
From the Cuban side, Leandro Luis Licea Vagas, President of Labiofam Group, said that the network opens up major opportunities for cooperation in research, development, and commercialisation of agricultural biotechnology, biomedicine, and natural health products, for the wellbeing of people in both countries and a sustainable green future.
According to Marta Ayala Ávila, General Director of the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) under BioCubaFarma, the launch of the network reflects the special solidarity and friendship between Cuba and Viet Nam.
She expressed her belief that the network will grow and expand successfully, contributing to the supply of high-quality biomedical products for public health.
The network comprises 22 founding members, including many leading Vietnamese institutions.
The Institute of Biology under the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology provides a strong foundation for research in molecular biology, genetic technology, microbiology, medicinal plants, and biodiversity, while promoting research collaboration, expert exchange, and technology transfer with Cuban institutions such as Labiofam and CIGB.
The National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology applies genetic and cell-based skin regeneration technologies, and aims to cooperate with Cuba in transferring biomedical technologies.
The National Lung Hospital collaborates with Cuban partners in advanced immunology applications and trials of specific biological products.
Hoa Sen Investment Group, a co-founder of a joint venture with Labiofam, plays a strategic investment role, connecting the biotechnology value chain and fostering green economic development.
