Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event formed part of activities marking Viet Nam Ethnic Groups’ Culture Day (April 19). It also honoured village elders, artisans and reputable community figures who play a central role in preserving and passing on traditional cultural values.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy underscored that Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW, issued on January 7, 2026 by the Politburo, reaffirmed culture as both a spiritual foundation and a key driver of socio-economic development in the new era. In this context, the cultural heritage of ethnic minorities was described as a vital pillar contributing to sustainable development, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
Delegates reviewed achievements during the 2021–2025 period, noting progress in policy frameworks, preservation of festivals, and the development of culture-linked tourism models. A shift in approach—from preservation alone to preservation combined with development—has helped unlock cultural values to support livelihoods and improve living standards. The role of communities, especially artisans and local leaders, has been increasingly recognised.
However, challenges remain, including slow disbursement of funds in some localities, uneven digital transformation, and a shortage of trained cultural personnel at grassroots level.
For the 2026–2030 period, participants emphasised the need to further refine policies, promote digital transformation, and strengthen community-centred approaches. Cultural preservation is expected to be closely linked with tourism and the cultural economy, while efforts to safeguard languages, customs and traditional practices among younger generations will be prioritised.
The conference also called for greater investment in human resources and stronger mobilisation of social resources, aiming to turn ethnic cultural values into an internal driver and soft power for national development.
On the occasion, outstanding elders, artisans and reputable figures were commended for their contributions to preserving and promoting traditional cultural heritage.
