According to VASEP, which represents local seafood producers and exporters, China, including Hong Kong, remained the largest importer of Vietnamese shark catfish, with a value of 44 million USD in April, up 7% from a year ago.
But the total value for the first four months of the year fell by a slight 2% to 149 million USD.
In April, the US was the second largest buyer of Vietnamese shark catfish, though its import value dropped by 15% to 40 million USD. The total value for the January-April period fell by 2% to 101 million USD.
Vietnamese shark catfish exports to the EU rose by 9% to 16 million USD in April, led by the Netherlands, which imported 17 million USD worth of Vietnamese shark catfish during the January-April period, up 15% year on year.
In South America, Brazil imported 63 million USD of Vietnamese shark catfish in the first four months of 2025, up 67% compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile in Southeast Asia, Viet Nam’s shark catfish exports to Thailand during January-April rose by 18% to 25 million USD.
