CPTPP emerges as second largest importer of Vietnam’s shark catfish

The CPTPP market has surpassed the US to become the second-largest importer of Vietnamese shark catfish in January, despite export turnover to this market falling by 17% year on year to 21 million USD.

Within this bloc, shark catfish exports to Mexico accounted for the largest share, at more than 5 million USD, according to Vietnam’s customs data.

Vietnamese shark catfish exports in January 2025 reached more than 133 million USD, down 19% from the same month last year.

China and Hong Kong (China) remained the largest consumers of Vietnamese shark catfish in the first month of 2025, at 31 million USD, down 40% from a year ago.

The US is the third-largest consumer of Vietnamese shark catfish in January, at 18 million USD, down 2% compared to the same period last year.

Exports to the EU reached more than 13 million USD, down 2%, of which the Netherlands was the largest importer at 3.4 million USD, down 9%.

In January, shark catfish export to Germany surged by 57% to nearly 3 million USD. However, many other markets saw sharp declines, such as Colombia down 38%, Spain down 33%, and the UK down 30%.
