Ho Van Nien, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee, attended the event and visited the exhibition stalls.
In his opening remarks, Pham Xuan Quang, Chairman of the Mang Ri Commune People's Committee, said that Mang Ri was a mountainous commune situated at the foot of the Ngoc Linh Mountain Range, comprising 19 villages, with the Xo Dang ethnic group accounting for the majority of the population.
The area is blessed with a cool climate throughout the year and soil conditions well suited to Ngoc Linh ginseng – a national treasure of Viet Nam – as well as other valuable medicinal herbs, cool-climate coffee, honey and a range of distinctive agricultural products. It is also home to the rich cultural heritage of the Xo Dang people, including gong performances, xoang folk dances, traditional basket weaving, loincloth weaving and traditional dishes inspired by the surrounding mountains and forests.
According to Pham Xuan Quang, Chairman of the Mang Ri Commune People's Committee, this is the first time the commune has joined forces with the Quang Ngai Provincial Centre for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion to organise a fair showcasing Ngoc Linh ginseng and local medicinal products alongside a Vietnamese Goods Fair.
The three-day festival, running from October 29 to 31, features a wide range of activities, including exhibitions, product introductions and sales of Ngoc Linh ginseng, medicinal herbs, OCOP products and Vietnamese goods. Visitors can also explore a dedicated area for identifying genuine Ngoc Linh ginseng and learn about the draft Vietnamese Standard on molecular biomarker analysis methods for Ngoc Linh ginseng.
Other highlights include a competition, exhibition and auction of outstanding Ngoc Linh ginseng roots; gong and xoang dance competitions; traditional cooking, basket weaving and loincloth-making contests involving all 19 villages; a livestream online sales competition; and a photo exhibition showcasing the land and people of Mang Ri.
