VNU, Ha Noi sees strong gains in academic standing, employer reputation and internationalisation

Viet Nam National University (VNU), Ha Noi has risen further in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 (QS AUR 2026), securing 158th place and ranking among the top 10.3% of higher education institutions in Asia, according to the latest results released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

QS AUR 2026 is the largest ranking QS has ever conducted, featuring 1,529 higher education institutions from 25 Asian countries and territories, including 558 institutions appearing for the first time. The results are based on more than 1.5 million votes from academics and 520,000 votes from employers worldwide. In addition, QS analysed over 200 million citations from 19.8 million scientific publications.

The ranking performance of VNU, Ha Noi clearly reflects significant improvements across high-weight criteria, especially those directly assessing training and research quality. Academic Reputation (weighting 30%) and Employer Reputation (weighting 20%), the two highest-weight indicators, both recorded strong increases, reaching 122nd (up 14 places) and 128th (up 9 places), respectively.

These outcomes affirm that the reputation and quality of training and research at VNU, Ha Noi are increasingly recognised by the global academic community and employers.

The university’s research quality and capacity are further demonstrated through the indicator on International Research Network, where it climbed 14 places to enter the top 75 universities in Asia. The indicator highlights the breadth and depth of international integration and collaboration in research across VNU’s units and academic staff.

With the expansion of the QS AUR 2026 rankings, Viet Nam now has 25 higher education institutions included, eight of which appear for the first time. Among institutions previously ranked, seven improved their positions, one remained unchanged, while nine saw a decline.

In the QS AUR 2026 rankings, the University of Hong Kong (China) placed first in Asia. In Southeast Asia, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) jointly ranked third in Asia. With the broader ranking scale, China and India remain the two countries with the largest number of ranked institutions, with 394 and 294 institutions, respectively.
