Work starts on flyover at Nguyen Binh Khiem-Dinh Vu intersection in Hai Phong

The northern port city of Hai Phong kick started the construction of a flyover at the Nguyen Binh Khiem-Dinh Vu intersection, an important arterial route facilitating the transportation of cargo from the city’s seaports to National Highway 5 and the Hai Phong-Hanoi Expressway, on March 3.

The reinforced concrete facility features seven spans measuring 252.2 metres in length and 18.5 metres in width. The junction beneath the flyover will organised in the form of a roundabout with a radius of 25 metres accommodating four lanes of vehicles.

The construction of the flyover is one of the two categories of the renovation and expansion project for the 2A section of Road 365 connecting Nguyen Binh Khiem junction and Dinh Vu dam, which was approved by the municipal People’s Committee a few years ago with total investment capital of over VND1.31 trillion (US$57.64 million).

Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, Deputy Transport Minister Nguyen Van Cong praised Hai Phong’s efforts to mobilise resources for the construction of many large transport facilities across the city, such as the Cat Bi International Airport, Tan Vu-Lach Huyen bridge, Le Hong Phong-Nguyen Binh Khiem flyover, Hoang Van Thu bridge and now Nguyen Binh Khiem-Dinh Vu flyover.

President of the Hai Phong Land Transportation Association Le Van Tien expressed his delight at the endeavours of the municipal authorities and the transportation sector in relation to accumulating investment and accelerating the progress of transport facilities, thereby creating favourable conditions for cargo transportation activities across the city.

As scheduled, construction of the flyover will be completed after six months, two years ahead of the approved plan.

According to statistics, 80% of goods transported via Hai Phong Port are circulated through this junction, which has made traffic congestion and accidents a common occurrence here. Once put into operation, the new flyover is expected to reduce accidents and congestion at this “knot”.
