A series of major projects now under development is opening new opportunities for growth, providing a crucial impetus for the locality to achieve its target of double-digit economic growth in the coming years.
Building a strategic industrial and energy hub
In early June, hundreds of engineers and workers, together with heavy machinery, were working around the clock at the Ca Na General Port project to accelerate the construction of Berth 1B. Meanwhile, site clearance is being expedited in preparation for the commencement of the Ca Na LNG Power Plant project and the Ca Na Industrial Park.
The three flagship projects invested in by Trung Nam Group are reshaping the southern coastal area of Khanh Hoa Province. Once completed, the integrated seaport-industrial-energy complex is expected to become one of the most important maritime economic centres in the South Central Coast region.
A key component of the development is the 1,500MW Ca Na LNG Power Plant, with a total investment of more than 57 trillion VND, developed by the Trung Nam–Sideros River consortium. Once operational, the plant is expected to contribute around 9 billion kWh of electricity annually to the national power grid.
Under the master plan, the Ca Na LNG complex will be developed with a 220,000-cubic-metre LNG storage tank, a regasification terminal with a capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year, and a 2,400-metre breakwater system. Notably, the deep-water port will be capable of accommodating vessels of between 300,000 and 500,000 tonnes, positioning Ca Na as a strategic LNG transshipment hub for the region.
The establishment of a large-scale LNG storage facility in Ca Na will not only ensure a stable fuel supply for the power plant but also lay the foundation for supplying energy to industrial and energy centres across central and southern Viet Nam in the future.
Nguyen Tam Thinh, Chairman of Trung Nam Group, said the company’s ambition extends beyond the building of a power plant. Instead, it aims to establish a complete value chain encompassing a seaport, LNG storage facilities, a power plant, and a green industrial park. The construction of Berth 1B, he noted, provides a critical foundation for bringing the entire complex into operation on schedule by 2030.
Ca Na is also being positioned as the province’s future industrial and logistics nucleus. Covering more than 378 hectares, the Ca Na Industrial Park is regarded as the first step towards developing Khanh Hoa Province into a centre for industrial services and renewable energy. It will provide technical logistics, assembly and maintenance services for the offshore wind power sector — an industry offering considerable growth potential for Vietnam.
Alongside this, once completed, the Ca Na General Port will serve as a multifunctional logistics hub capable of handling and transhipping oversized and heavy-lift equipment for major industrial and energy projects. This role will enable the port to extend beyond serving the Ca Na Industrial Park alone and become a gateway for trade across the wider coastal economic region.
In fact, Berth 1A has been operational since 2023 and has consistently recorded strong growth in cargo volumes. By early June 2026, total cargo throughput had approached 3.5 million tonnes, significantly exceeding initial projections.
For Berth 1B, contractors are currently focusing on bored piling and land reclamation works. The project is scheduled for completion before 30 June 2027, adding further handling capacity and strengthening the area’s role as a regional logistics centre.
Vu Van Nhuan, Director of the Ca Na General Port project, said the greatest challenge at present is securing construction materials. To address the issue, the company plans to utilise soil and rock generated during site levelling for the Trung Nam Ca Na Industrial Park to support the port’s construction, thereby optimising costs and accelerating project progress.
Expectations for a new growth pole
Investment preparation procedures for the Ca Na Industrial Park and the LNG Power Plant are currently being accelerated. The investor has completed the industrial park’s legal procedures and is actively finalising design documents and environmental impact assessment reports as well as coordinating with local authorities on land clearance for the LNG power project.
This year, Trung Nam Group plans to break ground on both the Trung Nam Ca Na Industrial Park and the Ca Na LNG Power Plant, marking a significant milestone in the development of the large-scale industrial-energy-logistics complex.
The synergy among the component projects is generating strong momentum for the Ca Na area. From a coastal region rich in potential but previously underutilised, Ca Na is gradually establishing itself as a new growth pole built upon a modern ecosystem of seaports, industry, and energy.
Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, said the locality places high expectations on the Ca Na industrial-energy-logistics complex as a driver of economic growth. In particular, the Ca Na General Port is expected to serve as a strategic logistics link, meeting not only the needs of the Ca Na Industrial Park but also the transportation demands of industrial parks, industrial clusters, and neighbouring economic regions.
With strong commitment from local authorities and determined efforts by investors, Ca Na is steadily assembling all the conditions necessary for a breakthrough. Once the projects become fully operational, the area is expected to emerge as a model for modern maritime economic development, creating a new engine of growth and enhancing the locality’s competitiveness for decades to come.
