As a foreign policy priority, Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Russia demonstrated the positive development of India-Russia relations. Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to make every effort to unlock the potential of the strategic partnership between the two countries. For Ukraine, Modi was the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Ukraine since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992. According to the India-Ukraine joint statement, both sides wish to elevate bilateral ties from a comprehensive to a strategic partnership.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of finding a peaceful solution through dialogue and diplomacy. During his meeting with the Russian President, Prime Minister Modi affirmed that peace is paramount and that a solution to the conflict in Ukraine cannot be found on the battlefield. In Ukraine, he also emphasised the need for all parties to be sincere and realistic in coming up with widely accepted solutions that contribute to the early restoration of peace, affirming that New Delhi is ready to contribute to promoting the early achievement of this goal.
Among the European tours, the visit to Poland marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the European country in 45 years, which took place on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The two sides decided to upgrade their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Modi’s visits to Brunei and Singapore marked a strong development in the bilateral relations between India and the two Southeast Asian countries, creating an important impetus to promote India’s Look East policy. During the first visit to Brunei by an Indian Prime Minister, when the two countries celebrated 40 years of diplomatic relations, the two leaders upgraded their relationship to an enhanced partnership. During his fifth visit to Singapore, the two countries upgraded their bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Among the achievements of the first 100 days of Prime Minister Modi’s government was India’s hosting of the 3rd Voice of the Global South Summit to strengthen cooperation between developing countries in the southern hemisphere.
At the conference, attended by representatives of more than 120 countries, Prime Minister Modi proposed a global agreement with the expectation of helping developing countries strengthen their capacity and promote trade.
The Indian leader called for solidarity among southern countries to address pressing global challenges. India is committed to sharing capacity with developing countries to increase trade and implement sustainable development goals.
In his speech after the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance won the Lok Sabha election in June, Prime Minister Modi stressed that the government would work hard to make India the third-largest economy in the world. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India can maintain a high economic growth rate in the medium term. The RBI believes that with stronger drivers, the Indian economy will maintain its growth trajectory, forecast at around 7.5% in the next few years.
Building on the achievements of the previous two terms, Prime Minister Modi continues to implement domestic and foreign policies to enhance the country’s position and take India steadily on the path of development.
