At a total investment of 60 billion VND, the project features a modern design, directly serving training and research in fields such as information technology, information systems, computer networks, and information security. It is among the projects being implemented to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).
Speaking at the ceremony, Assc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu, Standing Vice President of VNU, stated that the project holds strategic significance as the Party and State of Viet Nam have identified science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers of national development. It also demonstrates VNU’s pioneering role in training high-quality human resources to safeguard digital sovereignty, ensure cybersecurity, and promote sustainable socio-economic development.
“We firmly believe this facility will create momentum, provide impetus, and generate new dynamism for the construction and development of VNU in Hoa Lac,” affirmed Assc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu.
Alongside the multi-purpose experimental building, in 2025, VNU will simultaneously implement several strategic facilities in Hoa Lac to shape a modern university urban area. These include the VNU Administration Building — the central hub for governance and coordination across the university; the Viet Nam-Japan University — an international cooperation project with Japan nearing completion of its synchronised infrastructure; and the University of Engineering and Technology — expanding new premises focused on AI, semiconductors, and quantum technology.
In parallel, from the 2025–2026 academic year, the B–C dormitory complex will be put into operation, increasing on-campus accommodation in Hoa Lac to over 4,500 students, contributing to a convenient and civilised learning and living environment.
The relocation of VNU’s headquarters and training facilities to Hoa Lac marks a significant turning point, realising the aspirations of generations of leaders, scientists, and students. To date, the VNU administration and most of its member and affiliated units have officially relocated and established their presence in Hoa Lac. By the end of 2025, the VNU urban campus is expected to reach over 480,000m² of floor space, hosting nearly 20,000 full-time students, with this figure projected to rise to about 30,000 by 2027. This development opens a new space for infrastructure, academic life, and university governance.
Covering more than 1,100 hectares, VNU in Hoa Lac is planned to develop as a green-smart-innovative university city, integrating spaces for learning, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community life.
The groundbreaking of the multi-purpose experimental building, together with the ongoing strategic projects, not only meets immediate needs for training and research but also lays the foundation for VNU to affirm its position as a leading research university in the region, aligned with the national strategy on science-technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
