A ceremony was held in the ancient city of Hoi An, in the central province of Quang Nam, on September 28 to honour Mid-Autumn Festival, Social Customs and Beliefs in the ancient city as a national intangible cultural heritage.

At the ceremony, authorised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Thanh Hong — Director of the Quang Nam Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism — announced the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to recognise the national intangible cultural heritage.

Mid-Autumn Festival has long played an important role in the cultural and spiritual life of Hoi An people. On the occasion of the festival, all family members gather around the Mid-Autumn feast, look at the moon, eat cakes, and enjoy tea and talks about daily stories, creating a warm and love-filled gathering.

According to Hoi An City leaders, the title of national intangible cultural heritage of Mid-Autumn Festival, Social Customs and Beliefs further affirms the values of the Mid-Autumn Festival and this is an opportunity to preserve and promote traditional cultural values.

Over the past 25 years, the Mid-Autumn Festival in Hoi An has been associated with the activities of the full moon night on the sparkling and magical streets, attracting large numbers of tourists.
