The study also assessed students’ performance in mathematics and reading, with Vietnam ranking 22nd and 32nd, respectively.
That the country was listed among top ten in science has encouraged its education sector as it works to further develop students’ skills.
The overall result has also vindicated efforts to reform Vietnam’s education system to improve Vietnamese students’ performance.
The influential PISA rankings, conducted every three years by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), are based on tests taken by fifteen-year-olds in 72 countries and territories.
In Vietnam, the test assessed 188 educational facilities nationwide with a total of 5,826 students participating.
