The event marked the opening session of the 2025 Viet Nam–France Health Conference and served as a platform for direct policy dialogue between Vietnamese government agencies and French health experts.
Attending the seminar were: Nguyen Thuy Anh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies, President of the Viet Nam–France Friendship and Cooperation Association and Chairwoman of the Viet Nam–France Parliamentary Friendship Group; Professor Dr Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health; Phan Anh Son, President of VUFO; representatives from the French Embassy in Viet Nam; leaders of hospitals, research institutes, and medical training institutions; and experts, doctors, and scientists from both countries, along with leaders of the France – Viet Nam Health Union, which brings together more than 20 French medical associations and the French Academy of Medicine.
This event served as an important occasion for both sides to outline major directions for a new phase of cooperation, including the promotion of a Viet Nam–France Health Cooperation Agreement, contributing to the goal of developing a high-quality, equitable, efficient, and internationally integrated Vietnamese health system, in line with the spirit of Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW.
Leaders and experts from both sides reviewed the outcomes of cooperation in the health sector — one of the traditional, exemplary, and most effective areas within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and France.
Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan noted that Viet Nam–France health cooperation has flourished since the early 1990s, particularly in the training of resident doctors, technology transfer, scientific research, and hospital support.
Many collaborative models between research institutes, universities, and hospitals of the two countries have become success stories. France has also been among Viet Nam’s most active partners in public health, disease prevention and control, and the development of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.
The Ministry of Health of Viet Nam and the French Ministry of Public Health are currently finalising procedures to sign a bilateral Health Cooperation Agreement, which is under review by relevant ministries before being submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.
The Ministry of Health of Viet Nam reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating increasingly effective, practical, and sustainable Viet Nam–France cooperation in healthcare — for the shared goal of protecting, caring for, and improving people’s health.
