Quang Tri holds memorial, reburial services for martyrs' remains

A memorial and reburial ceremony was held on November 8 for the remains of martyrs who died on Road 20 Quyet thang, Thuong Trach Commune.

The event saw the presence of Le Ngoc Quang, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, former Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Van Phuong, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee; leaders of the two provinces of Quang Tri and Thanh Hoa, departments, branches, and armed forces of the province, and relatives of the martyrs.

The family of General Secretary To Lam sent a wreath to pay respect to the heroic martyrs.

Previously, during the process of renovating the landscape of Cave Eight, from October 1 to October 15, at the location of the old cave entrance that had collapsed, the 589 Martyr Remains Collection Team under the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command searched for and collected many martyrs’ remains and some relics.

In accordance with the wishes of the martyrs’ families, the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee directed relevant agencies and units to conduct DNA testing to identify the martyrs. So far, eight DNA results have matched the samples of martyrs’ relatives in localities such as Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh (formerly Nam Dinh).

Also according to the wishes of the martyrs’ families, the martyrs’ remains and relics were buried in a common grave built at the entrance of the cave to commemorate and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs, and educate revolutionary traditions for the younger generation.
