Quang Tri Province allocates 35.9 billion VND to support fishing vessels operating in distant waters

The People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province announced on May 12 that it had issued a decision to allocate funds from the central government to support fishing vessels participating in fishing in distant waters. This timely support helps people overcome some of the difficulties caused by the high price of fuel.

Specifically, the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee is providing over 35.9 billion VND in support to fishing vessel owners in the following localities: Dong Hoi, Ba Don, Bac Gianh, Hoa Trach, Nam Gianh, Phu Trach, Quang Trach, Tan Gianh, Bac Trach, and Dong Trach. This funding is used to support fuel costs for offshore fishing trips and the cost of hull insurance and crew accident insurance.

The People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province has assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead, in coordination with the Department of Finance, the People’s Committees of relevant communes and wards, and other functional units, to monitor, compile, and report on the implementation results.

The State Treasury of Region XII is responsible for publicly announcing the schedule for disbursing financial support to facilitate the procedures for fishermen to receive the funds.

According to many fishermen in Quang Tri, this year’s southern fishing season has been directly affected by fluctuations in oil prices. For offshore fishing, fuel costs account for 50–60% of the total cost of each trip.

The high oil prices, while seafood prices have not increased proportionally, have resulted in many fishing trips not generating enough revenue to cover costs. Some boats have chosen to remain ashore, waiting for more favourable times.

The State’s sharing of difficulties with the people through fuel cost support is very practical, helping them gradually overcome difficulties, continue fishing, and contribute to protecting the sovereignty of the nation's seas and islands.
