The VFA said that rice exports in the first quarter fell by 41.19% in volume and 40.63% in value compared to the same period last year.
Vietnamese rice exporters have so far stockpiled 693,894 tonnes of rice and expect to buy an additional 1.5 million tonnes from local farmers in April and May.
Data from the VFA shows that Vietnamese rice export prices are rallying. The price of 25% broken rice is now up to US$425 per tonne and 5% broken rice is selling for US$450 per tonne.
The VFA also forecasted that Vietnam’s rice shipments in April will reach 650,000 tonnes and 2 million tonnes for the second quarter of 2012.
