Visiting Gia Lam General Hospital in the days before the Lunar New Year 2026, the hospital campus is filled with the atmosphere of Tet and the colours of spring, creating additional joy and motivation for patients and their families as Tet approaches.
Standing and admiring the “Tet space” along the hospital corridor, Nguyen Thi Huong Giang (Bat Trang commune, Ha Noi), who is receiving treatment at the Surgery Department, shared: In recent days, although very busy caring for patients’ health, doctors and nurses working at the Surgery Department have tried to spare some time to decorate a Tet space for patients. The Tet space, decorated with peach and apricot branches, red couplets, banh chung, flowers and twinkling lights, is arranged harmoniously and beautifully, clearly reflecting the image of the nation’s traditional Tet.
For patients like us, who still have to stay in hospital for treatment in the days before Tet, being able to look at the Tet space decorated by doctors and nurses makes me feel that the new spring is arriving. My spirits are lifted, I feel happier, and it is as if my illness is being pushed further away.
According to Head Nurse Kieu Thi Thuy (Gia Lam General Hospital), the Surgery Department often receives many emergency trauma patients during Tet, including those who are unfortunately unable to return home to reunite with their families. Understanding those feelings, we have proactively decorated Tet corners right in the department. We hope this warm and familiar space will become a source of spiritual comfort, helping patients ease their homesickness and feel at peace, as if they were being cared for in their own homes.
Like Gia Lam General Hospital, doctors and nurses at My Duc General Hospital have skilfully transformed their daily working space into a vibrant and colourful “Tet Arrives – Spring Returns” space with peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, banh chung, red couplets and firecrackers.
Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung, Deputy Head of the Administration and Organisation Department (My Duc General Hospital), said: We hope that each decorated corner not only brings the colours of spring, but also conveys care and encouragement to patients, with the thought that even those who must stay in hospital for continued treatment during Tet will still feel the warmth and closeness of celebrating Tet in their own homes.
According to Specialist Doctor Level II Nguyen Thanh Huy, Deputy Director of My Duc General Hospital, in order to ease patients’ and their families’ worries about illness in the first days of spring, the hospital has brought Tet closer by proactively decorating welcoming spring spaces throughout the campus and in each department and ward. The bright and warm colours not only help patients feel as if they are celebrating Tet in their own homes, but also serve as a precious source of spiritual encouragement, bringing additional joy and hope along their treatment journey.
At the same time, that spring space also energises doctors, nurses and medical staff who are on duty 24 hours a day, so that even though they cannot reunite with their families, they still feel the warmth of spring and spread love to every patient.
Understanding the sentiments that doctors and nurses at My Duc General Hospital have for patients receiving treatment there, Nguyen Thi La, 77 years old, from Huong Son commune (Ha Noi), emotionally shared: “I suffer from many serious illnesses and almost live at the hospital. During Tet, when everyone else rests and reunites with their families, doctors and nurses remain at the hospital, attentively caring for, asking about and encouraging us. Seeing the hospital warmly decorated, with flowers and the atmosphere of Tet, I feel cared for and as if I am celebrating Tet with my loved ones. This is a great source of encouragement that gives me more strength to overcome illness. Nothing is more precious than health. I sincerely thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff here for their affection.”
