Addressing the ceremony, CAAV Director General Uong Viet Dung said the 2015 air services agreement between the governments of Viet Nam and Türkiye had provided an important legal framework for expanding bilateral air services. Since then, aviation cooperation has developed steadily, contributing to trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The Turkish side praised the growing partnership in civil aviation, describing Viet Nam as a strategically important country in Southeast Asia with strong potential to become a regional passenger and cargo hub. Both sides agreed to further broaden cooperation in the sector.
Turkish Airlines currently operates direct flights between Istanbul and both Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, making Türkiye an important gateway linking Viet Nam with Europe, the Middle East and other regions.
In 2025, the airline operated more than 1,100 flights, carrying over 439,000 passengers and 31,600 tonnes of cargo. During the first half of 2026, flight frequency rose by 37.6% year-on-year, passenger traffic by 27.6% and cargo volume by 93.9%.
Dung also highlighted the role of designated carriers, particularly Turkish Airlines and Viet Nam Airlines, in strengthening connectivity and promoting cultural exchanges, trade, investment and tourism between the two countries.
The newly signed MoU aims to enhance passenger and cargo transport between Viet Nam and Türkiye. It removes restrictions on third and fourth freedom traffic rights for passenger services while facilitating cargo operations to meet growing market demand.
The agreement also expands cooperation into areas including aviation training, aircraft maintenance, ground handling, airport operations and other fields of mutual interest.
