This is the third surgery carried out within the hospital’s first month since deployment to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
The patient suffered a complete rupture of his left Achilles tendon during training. After examination and consultation by Vietnamese doctors, he chose to have the operation at the field hospital for convenience and timely treatment.
The surgery was directly conducted by Dr Tran Duc Tai, Director of the Hospital, with the approval of the Force Medical Officer (FMO).
The one-hour surgery took place under strict sterile conditions, supported by an anaesthesia-resuscitation system and rigorous infection control.
The patient is now in stable condition and recovering well.
As of October 22, exactly one month since its deployment, Viet Nam’s Level-2 Field Hospital No 7 has successfully performed three surgeries; carried out one medical air evacuation (Medevac); examined and treated 200 patients; and fully participated in specialised peacekeeping training courses organised by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
