Binh Duong’s Ao dai Festival promotes women’s role in society

The Women’s Union of Binh Duong province organised the Ao dai (traditional long dress) Festival on March 8, on the occasion of the 113th anniversary of International Women’s Day and the 1983rd anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising.

The event aims to nurture and promote the patriotic tradition of Vietnamese women and their role in the family and society while highlighting the development of Ao dai from the past to the present.

The event also called on local organisations and individuals, to donate white Ao dai for students in need and workers.

President of the Women’s Union of Binh Duong province Truong Thanh Nga said that various activities have been held in March, to honour Vietnamese women, such as an online photo contest on Ao dai, a contest honouring the beauty and talent of Binh Duong women, a campaign to exchange Ao dai for trees, an Ao dai performance, the donation of Ao dai to women in need, and others.

At the event, local agencies and organisations pledged to donate 1,113 sets of cloth to make white Ao dai for students in need and 113 Ao dai for workers in need, with a total value of 379 million VND. They also donated 234 million VND to support women in need in border areas and 50 million VND to disadvantaged women, to help them stabilise their lives.

On this occasion, the organising board introduced a special collection of Ao dai by designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam and his journey to promote Ao dai culture over the past 30 years.
